Fasting
Dry January with a difference
I’m doing a fast.
The concept of a Dry January will not be new to you. But I’m doing it with a twist.
I am abstaining from the usual mind altering substances, as is the standard for many in January, but I am also removing all media inputs (outside of music and books). My goodness I need it. Not so much the substances, they’re not an issue for me, but the media. I need a break. An intervention, rehab!
January feels like an optimal time for this. The internet is extra noisy with new year, new me declarations, round ups from last year, many many pushy sales of various programmes, new year predictions blah blah blah. So I’m switching off.
JOMO <joy of missing out> galore!
This year I am planning to go deep with my energetic work and explore the importance of frequency for your experience and overall enjoyment of the 3d. Between you and me, it’s everything, I already know this, literally what we should all be tending to before anything else, but I’ll chat about that another time.
But, for now, in order to have control over your frequency, you need to have control over your mind, thoughts, feelings and everyone’s favourite right now; your nervous system.
You need to be conscious and sensitive. But most people are perpetually distracted. Every snippet of the day filled with consumptive noise. Nothing can be felt because you’re numbed out in the scroll.
How can you notice what you’re doing, thinking, feeling & believing in this moment if you’re unconscious?
When there is just CONSTANT NOISE?!
Podcasts, social media, emails, music, classes, watching YouTube tutorials, checking notifications, video games, online shopping, reading Substacks, asking chat GPT ALL the questions and on and on and on…
It’s impossible to have full control over the energetic frequency you’re broadcasting when you constantly have someone else’s voice and endless information in your head.
Even if you consider your consumption choices to be of the healthy variety, it’s still someone else’s frequency compromising your true vibration.
And don’t even get me started on the power or motives behind the “PROGRAMMES”.
When you’re over-consuming:
Procrastination is easy. Got a deadline to hit… “I’ll just check my notifications”, “what is so and so saying today”, “oh look a cat rolling down a hill”.
Your focus and dopamine are completely shot.
Numbness, paralysis and stagnation steal the joy of creation.
Time feels like a massive black hole. Losing hours in the scroll.
The medicine?
I am averting my eyes. Turning my attention to all the things I usually think I don’t have time for. Spoiler alert… there’s tonnes of time.
I have a menu of alternative activities to amuse myself with, setting myself up for success (hopefully). Alongside blocks and controls on my phone to force me to pause and question my actions.
In the age of information, taking back control of your attention and consciousness is a rebellious act. Vive la revolution!
Our attention, eyes & minutes are the most valuable commodity of this era, and we’re just giving it away mindlessly. Blindly neglecting the source of our infinite creative power. Our focus.
Where focus goes, energy flows
Quiet the voices, so you can hear your own.
Stop introducing interference. Zero static, zero noise, just pure, unadulterated creative power! Hearing that internal guidance system.
A breath of fresh air in a noisy world.
I’ll report back with my findings next month!
Have you tried a consumption fast or digital detox? How did you find it? Did you experience a positive effect? Let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
